In 2017, I made two large, sofa-style pillows using premium metallic quilting cotton and the “cathedral window” quilt pattern. These pillows were gifts for two of our daughters at Christmastime. For the two larger pillows, I pieced the backs with holiday fabric with fabric leftover from other projects (see photos in the gallery). Many of the patterned fabrics had metallic accents and most of the white used is solid white batik (which I love because of how it’s woven and nearly nonexistent fraying. These are a great way to use up scraps from other larger projects and make lovely gifts.
In 2020, I made a matching set of four pillow shams for the throw pillows on our bed. I like making fitted pillow shams for throw pillows because it makes it easy to swap out and coordinate the look of the pillows with each bed quilt and season without having to purchase and store a lot of pillows.
When you view the pics you’ll probably think cathedral window pillows look a little formal on top of a Peanuts Gang Christmas fleece, and I agree. A new, queen-size Christmas quilt for our bed is already in the works and I’m determined to have it done by mid-November, 2022. In each month in 2020, I participated in a Christmas block-of-the-month program at a local quilt shop. The quilt features a large Christmas center panel and applique sampler blocks all around. I’ve not begun assembling the blocks yet, but have everything I need to get the prolect started. So, stay tuned!
I used the super simple technique for this block shard on Missouri Star Quilting Co., YouTube channel. You can view the tutorial by clicking HERE.
