I had my knee replaced last December and was assigned to a physical therapist, Mari, who happened to be pregnant and due the exact same day as my chiropractor’s baby was due. It also turned out that I’ve known and worked with my physical therapist’s mom for about 25 years. It’s such a small world.
Since I had a birth announcement pillow in process for one mom, I decided a custom pillow would be a great gift for each baby. Mari decorated her baby’s nursery in a Peter Pan and Tinkerbell theme and with my Brother NS2750D machine (D is for Disney in the Brother Sewing world), I knew I’d be able to embroider a cute design for her.
Like the Tiffany pillow, I used Embrilliance embroidery software to edit a birth announcement file purchased from Designs by JuJu. I purchased the Tinkerbell embroidery file from iBroidery (Brother’s embroidery division). After completing the embroidery, I quilted it using ruler and free-motion stitching before adding the custom cording around the edge and the backing fabric.
The pillow was quilted using 40wt Glide thread in their pink lemonade color and the embroidery mainly was Madeira brand thread. I really like the white background fabric with the light gray dots. It’s made by Figo Fabrics, a Stonehenge Fabrics division. I enhanced the photos in Photoshop to make it easier to see the embroidery and quilting detail. The pink Tinkerbell fabric and the white with gray dots are slightly more subtle than the photos would lead you to believe.
These pillows make great gifts. I’m super happy with the outcome and so was Mari.
