My chiropractor, Denise, recently gave birth to her third child, Tiffany Marie. When thinking about what I should give her as a baby gift, I remembered that quite a while back, I had purchased a few birth announcement embroidery templates from Designs by JuJu that I’ve not yet used. Instead of buying a gift, I decided to make her a gift.
The fabric has been in my inventory so long that I cannot remember where I bought it, but I think it was part of a bulk deal found on Facebook from an individual who was clearing out a lot of fabric from a family member.
I use Embrilliance software to edit embroidery files and so I moved a few of the elements around, added Tiffany’s pertinent info and then added the floral borders on the sides to make a rectangle design more square. For a project like this, I typically use two layers of medium-weight cut-away stabilizer and then trim it very close to the stitching before making the quilt sandwich that will become the pillow top.
My favorite embroidery thread is Madeira poly, which was mostly used for this pillow top. For the quilting, I used 40wt Glide in their pink lemonade color. I used a Westalee small wavy ruler plus loopy meander free motion quilting to complete the top. I covered upholstery cording with fabric and attached it as the pillow top and bottom pieces were stitched together.
I’m delighted with the outcome and my friend was so pleased she asked me to make birth announcement pillows for her other two children. Here are the photos of the completed project.
