John Deere Custom Baby Quilt & Pillow

This project was commissioned by a friend in Nixa for her grandson. Her hubby has always had John Deere tractors and he loves giving his grandson rides so a John Deere-themed baby quilt was going to be a hit.

The fabric started out with what is referred to as a “cheater fabric” meaning the blocks and sashing were already printed. However, the sashing and cornerstones in the design were very girly with yellow and red flowers and little ears of corn with green foliage so that just wouldn’t do. I cut out each of the tractors and then squared them up. I saved the sashing strips that were cut away and used them for the binding. If you look close you can see the yellow and red designs in the fabric design on the binding. I had four blocks left over after piecing the tractor blocks with yellow and black Kona Solids® fabric and so I made a matching pillow.

The quilt and pillow were delivered to my friend the week of Christmas, 2021, as the project was promised to be a Christmas gift. I quilted it using rulers in a geometric “dot-to-dot” pattern. My friend was super happy with the outcome! Here are photos of the completed project.
