The pastor of our church is of Scottish descent. He has a navy blue tartan wool stole he wears over his robe each season of Advent. Someone made it for him many years ago. It’s a wool tartan design that belongs to his McIntyre clan in Scotland. I felt very honored when he asked me to embroider Nativity stars on it for him.
I sent him several options from stars available online and found the one he wanted at EmbroideryDesigns.com. I used Maderia metallic silver and Madiera white thread and they turned out beautiful. The stole/sash was already made and he didn’t want me to disassemble it so I used two layers of medium weight Sulky stabilizer and floated it in the hoop. I then trimmed the stabilizer very carefully on the back and the back looks almost as good as the front.
It was ready just prior to the first week of Advent, 2020. And, although in-person worship was stopped due to the rise of COVID-19 cases in our area, I got to see him wear it while watching the services online.
