PJ Masks Birthday Cake

It’s always fun to make birthday cakes for my grandkids and my grandson, Nolan, requested a PJ Masks themed party and birthday cake. If you’re not familiar with the PJ Masks cartoon franchise, think Power Rangers for a younger audience. What could be better than kids becoming superheroes themselves? That’s what happens at night for young friends Connor, Amaya and Greg. When they put on their pajamas and activate their animal amulets, they turn into their alter egos—Catboy, Owlette and Gekko— before embarking on adventures that are filled with action. The three main characters of the series are on top of the cake with the candles and the two bad guys from the series are attached to the bottom of the cake board with frosting.

The scripts for the animated series always begin, “Night, in the city…” which is why there’s fondant lettering on the city/cake board that reads “Nolan, in the city.” I covered the cake board with black fondant that was marked up to look like asphalt. The four-layer white cake was colored dark blue and has blue-tinted almond buttercream between the layers and all around it. The city buildings, moon and lettering are all from fondant. All the PJ Masks characters were toys he could keep after the party. Nolan was a very happy boy, albeit a bit cold and wet having just exited the swimming pool at his party.
