My sewing room reorganization project is coming along nicely. About 90% of my fabrics, between fat quarter size and just under two yards, are now on comic book boards and organized by color or theme. For example, all patriotic fabrics are together, Christmas fabrics are together, the baby prints are together, etc. Anything two yds., and over are still on big bolts because I think it’s easier to manage a larger quantity on a regular full-size cardboard bolt.
The photo below is my in-process project. Some pieces had to be pressed prior to putting them on the boards. I purchased the 10.5″ x 7″ boards on Amazon in a pack of 100. They’re acid-free making them perfect for fabric storage. I like being able to see what I’ve got, library-style! I secured the fabric to the boards with small, clear fabric clips, also purchased from Amazon. They’re like the clips you find on new men’s dress shirts when they’re in packages.
This is the bottom of the credenza where I have a variety of white and cream-color fabrics along with quilting books. The top of the credenza is the main photo for this post and shows the fabric on the comic book boards. And yes, that’s a Silhouette cutting machine that doesn’t get used as often as it should.
The stacking baskets under my cutting table have lots of fabric scraps and smaller pieces in sandwich and gallon-sized zip closure bags. I’m working to organize the bolts by color or type. So far, all the blues, whites, Christmas and fall prints are together. The counter-height table is great for cutting fabric.
Here’s the last sewing room pic of the day. My thread shelves were freebies and previously displayed nail polish in an area salon. I got them when the salon remodeled. My Madeira, Autifil and Connecting Threads spools fit perfectly. The small upside-down cones (that don’t fit top-up) are from a lot I bought online that I will never order again. The exception to this statement is the upside-down spool of Sulky embroidery thread that is premium quality. Standard, multi-purpose spools also fit on the shelves.
