Baby Mac's Bed was Just Right

This baby quilt is part one of a two-quilt set. This bear paw pattern baby quilt using bear fabrics measures approximately 36" square and was made for our soon-to-be new family member. My great-niece is expecting her first child in March and his initials spell the name Mac. I'm almost done with a larger, matching companion quilt that measures about 52" square that will be perfect for playing on the floor or for a future toddler bed.

The bear fabric is from Moda, the white fabric is actually a white and tea-stained-looking fabric from Island Batiks and the tan fabric is from the Quilter's Candy line at Connecting Threads. The machine embroidery on the sashing is flanked on each end with an embroidered bear paw and the label on the back also features a bear paw. I'm not great at free-motion quilting, but the more I do it the better it looks. This was my best attempt at a quilting meander that I've done, to date. There are four meander sections, one on each side of the border. Most of my quilted bear paw points look great, but a few could have been better—but I don't think little Mac is going to care one bit!

When you look at the back of the quilt I just love that the bears look as though they're sitting in Busch Stadium watching a game. I also fussy cut the cornerstones (as best I could with the scraps I had) so that each cornerstone had a bear's face. The bear paw embroidery files were purchased from EmbroideryDesigns.com and the text was a font purchased from Designs by JuJu (DBJJ). I set it up using Embrillance Essentials embroidery software.
