McIntyre Tartan Embroidered Stole for Advent

The pastor of our church is of Scottish descent. He has a navy blue tartan wool stole he wears over his robe each season of Advent. Someone made it for him many years ago. It’s a wool tartan design that belongs to his McIntyre clan in Scotland. I felt very honored when he asked me to embroider Nativity stars on it for him.

I sent him several options from stars available online and found the one he wanted at EmbroideryDesigns.com. I used Maderia metallic silver and Madiera white thread and they turned out beautiful. The stole/sash was already made and he didn’t want me to disassemble it so I used two layers of medium weight Sulky stabilizer and floated it in the hoop. I then trimmed the stabilizer very carefully on the back and the back looks almost as good as the front. 🙂

It was ready just prior to the first week of Advent, 2020. And, although in-person worship was stopped due to the rise of COVID-19 cases in our area, I got to see him wear it while watching the services online.
